FAQ for Design Licensing:

What is Art Licensing?

Art licensing is purchasing the use of a design from an artist or designer for a specified purpose and/or timeframe. You can license my design(s) non-exclusively or exclusively (see these options below). As a licensee, you pay a fee to the licensor (me) to use the artwork in accordance with the terms you’ve agreed on with me

  • An existing pattern is licensed to you to be manufactured by the printer of your choice, and sold as finished goods in one category. The design will still be available in my portfolio and can be licensed to other brands non-exclusively also.

The design may also be licensed non-exclusively to other companies at the same time and will remain for sale on sites such as Spoonflower, where other people may purchase the design printed on fabric, wallpaper, and other products.

Please note: You do not need a license to sell finished goods you have made from fabric purchased on Spoonflower.

  • Licenses are for an agreed time period and category. Usage terms for an exclusive license are negotiated and agreed upon by all parties before any design work commences.
As the designer, I can legally use the design during the licensing period for any other purpose that isn’t specified in the licensing agreement; eg. if you have exclusively licensed a design for Kids Apparel, then I can still license the design within a different category such as Bedding or Women’s Apparel.
If you would like complete exclusivity to a design this would be negotiated in the licensing contract,
At the end of the license term, you will have the first opportunity to renew the design. If you decide not to re-license, then the rights to the design revert back to me.

  • Get in touch if you would like a completely custom illustration or design. Let me know your thoughts and I will send through any further questions and details about where we go next!

  • Pricing varies depending on many factors such as the complexity of design or license period. Fill out this Licensing Inquiry Form and then I can get back to you with a quote.

  • If the design is a vector file then I can certainly customise colours, however if the design was hand painted in watercolour I can only customise the background colour for you.
