The installation for my show 'Small feet big boots' went off without a hitch & the opening on Saturday was wonderful! Thanks to everyone that came & has a glass of mulled wine with me! 'The Beetle and the Butterfly explores the relationships between humans and their environments in quirky, playful and sometimes mischievous ways. Both artists are interested in creating new dynamics between everyday objects and people through traces left behind as people transition between ecological and engineered environments. The collaborative process the artists have undertaken in the making of this body of work is integral to the exploration of how people understand their surroundings and each other. Conversely, it also examines how the environment reacts to constant manipulation by human hands.

AT ROLLERDOOR PERFORMANCE SPACE

DOMINIC KAVANAGH explores the aesthetic and sonic world of ruination, evoking various sensations by appropriating materials sourced from the urban wilderness of the discarded object. This is achieved through a chain of FX pedals, loopers and synths. With the addition of modified vocals, Dominic seeks to complement and embellish on a layered cacophony of sound and texture.

TIM FARRELL works with several homemade instruments, utilizing live processing, feedback and light to explore improvisation through unexpected sounds and hardware crashes. Tim is interested in using his own body as the circuit conductor with his latest creations a hacked Korg monotron and the fluoroscent-light-magnetic-interference-thingy.'

We've just spent a beautiful weekend in Jindera visiting my family and it really does make me miss living in the country. I don't think I could live near Albury again though, it's just not me.. It was hard to believe how inexpensively priced everything was too- considering it would have taken Cat-Rabbit a giant chunk of time to make! I'm seriously considering buying one-you should too!

I am quite keen to make my own letterpress equipment, as a the costs can be so high for printing equipment, and also I think it's nicer to make things yourself..more satisfying..

I just caved in and brought a book that I had recently been drooling over- LITTLE BOOK OF LETTERPRESS, by Charlotte Rivers and am feeling very inspired by it's contents.

Expect to see some of my drawings reproduced in letterpressed form relatively soon...

New prints

I have made some new prints that will be for sale as of this week. They were drawn in ink and digitally printed onto beautiful white watercolour paper, and mounted onto acid free creamy eggshell pastel paper. All materials are archival quality, and each print is hand signed and dated. 

They are $25 for A5 & $40 for A4, contact me directly to purchase as I haven't put them up on the store yet..

Yesterday I completed a commissioned piece for my lovely best friend Alysha, and her equally wonderful sister Natarjsha. They provided the canvas and let me do whatever I liked with it, bless them for trusting me! This is what I came up with:

Today we worked on my caravan and I promised pictures, so here they are:

The caravan is pretty much a shell at this stage, we sealed up all the edges and nooks so that rain won't seep in..

Unfortunately we didn't have enough dusky green to paint the van so we have gone with a mixture of creams and whites, scraped together from old paints that were lying around in the shed..

And as the day draws to an end my little caravan is fresh as a daisy with her new coat of paint, there's still a while to go though! I'm so sad I have to leave her tomorrow and head back to Melbourne..

I am having a little break at the family farm and am currently in the throes of choosing colours for my vintage carapark caravan which I am in the lengthy process of restoring. To get ideas I have been researching other restorations and have found some beautiful vans..

I want to keep the interior a bit rustic and not too sweet and polka dotty-which a lot of vintage caravans tend to be restored to. I do love pastels so I will incorporate them throughout, but I'll try to mix it up with some indigo, red and raw wooden cupboards. I'm still deciding whether to keep the exterior raw metal or a pastel shade. Hmmm too many decisions! I'll try to post a progress shot of the van soon..

I'm slowly building my collection of lush Kamoi masking tape for wrapping gifts and prints sold on my Etsy store. For those of you that haven't heard of this splendid tape- it's made from rice paper and has been traditionally produced in Japan in some form or another for over 80 years. There are many stunning patterns to choose from and you can use it for anything you can think up! Kamoi do a factory tour here, where you can learn the process of making the tape- fascinating!

Ryan and I were just watching 'Beautiful Losers' for the third or fourth time, and it made me want to share the pure joy that was Margaret Kilgallen:

Such an inspiring artist- purely because she had such a social conscience within her work, and created for the pleasure of others as much as for herself..Very rare.

Margaret managed to create an enormous body of work in her 33 years, it would have been wonderful to see where she would have taken her images next..

I've been fairly quiet on here of late, as a lot has been happening- I've moved studios, started a new job, and headed back to uni to study my masters in arts management?! I'm actually moving studios again as of tomorrow- to a beautiful space in the city, sharing with the lovely artist Hannah Bertram.

A few new handmade cards have been added to my store in the last few days- all one of a kind, so they must be grabbed quickly. New jewellery will be up very soon too.

I'll keep you posted over the next few weeks about a new art show I have coming up. It will be held at Hunter Gatherer in Fitzroy, Melbourne.

Just a quick note to say: Dusty is now being stocked at Hunter Gatherer on Brunswick Street Fitzroy. The store has some beautiful vintage goodies, and supports the Brotherhood of St Laurence as well, so is well worth a visit.. 

I know I'm very overdue for a big blogging session, so I'll get on it as soon as I can- but for now I have to run!

Oh, I really like this artist I stumbled upon on My Love For You, Allison Mellberg-Taylor and I admire her dedication to using only non- toxic materials in her work. This is definitely something I aspire to do in my own practise. It's actually really lovely listening to Wilco and perusing Allyson's work at the same time..try it.

So the first Fitzroy market was a success! I met so many lovely people today, and there heaps of great stalls, I'm definately booking in for next month!

I freshly printed some new cards today ready for Saturday's market. I hand drew the pic, then coloured him in photoshop and printed onto beautiful watercolour paper using my little inkjet printer, before hand cutting and folding each one. I want them to stay very limited edition so I have only printed 8 for now! I will be testing out some bamboo paper for printing very soon too so stay tuned!

I found out today that I will be having a stall on Saturday 13th February at the Craft Hatch market, held in the City Library. The market on this particular day will be held in conjunction with the Melbourne Sustainable Living Festival, so all stall holder's wares will be eco-friendly and/or sustainable.. The other designer's goodies look pretty great!

Shepparton Craft & Produce market

So, I travelled to Shepparton on Sunday to have a stall at their monthly craft and produce market. I shared the space with my papa who was selling his beautiful handcrafted boxes, chopping boards and other wooden delights. It was a beautiful sunny day, however the stall fell on the same day as a massive bike ride that blocked off all the main surrounding streets, keeping alot of people away from the market!
